Since early 2004, I have worked on stories about American soldiers who have been wounded in the Iraq war. Along with other photographers, including Nina Berman and James Nachtwey, there is a growing body of photographic documentation that gives an honest and vital picture of what’s happening to the young men and women returning from Iraq. Over the past four years this war has created a new generation of scarred young Americans numbering in the tens of thousands. We must pay attention to them and to this issue. It will effect all of us.
