PROOF: Media for Social Justice is an organization focused on building peace and preventing genocide through the use of photojournalism. PROOF creates exhibitions, publications, and on-site activities to promote world issues through visual storytelling. “PROOF’s exhibitions tell untold stories of acts of moral courage as well as document injustice and human rights abuses.”
PROOF’s upcoming exhibition is featuring the work of finalists from their annual Emerging Photojournalist’s Award at VII Gallery in Dumbo. This year’s winner is Allyse Pulliam, who won the award for her striking work documenting women’s reproductive health issues in Burma. Ranked 190 of 191 countries with the world’s worst health care, Burmese women have very little resources for proper reproductive care. Pulliam states “It is important to show the rest of the world what happens when these rights are not honored and care gets pushed underground.”
Also, featured in the PROOF: Media for Social Justice exhibition at VII Gallery will be the work of honorable mentions Mattheiu Zellweger and Michelle Gerster. The show will be on display from July 25-August 30th. The opening night of the gallery exhibition will be July 25th and the event will be hosted by Ed Kashi. Come out to support these inspiring photojournalists who are working to make our world a better place.
