Get a behind-the-scenes look at how to produce compelling, concise documentaries in this workshop that examines the art of the short documentary film. Most filmmakers today are learning how to tell powerful stories in as little as three to ten minutes, which is an ideal amount of time for online or for film festival submissions. Learn about thoughtful pre-production, efficient shooting, and get a grasp on story structure. Take an in-depth look at the technical and narrative challenges of creating short documentaries, and produce your own short film in this engaging and collaborative course.
Media & Techniques:
We work with video cameras or DSLRs with audio recorders, microphones, tripods and Adobe Premiere.
We begin the week by exploring story structure, interviewing techniques, video composition, shooting for narrative sequencing, audio capture and basic editing. Students work in pairs to find and document story subjects, and each team produces a short film by the end of the course.
