Join VII Mentor Program photographer Sim Chi Yin, along with ChinaFile, Magnum Foundation, and Open Society Foundations (OSF), for an evening of photos and discussion on Wednesday, May 28, 2014. “Ground Up: China on the Margins” will take place at OSF in NYC from 6:30-8:00pm.
Chi Yin will be showing her compelling images that document “Chinese society – from rural petitioners demanding justice to migrants living in Beijing’s basements to gold miners waiting for death in the remote mountains.” Through her intimate approach, Chi Yin tells the fascinating stories of communities on the fringes of Chinese society.
Chi Yin will also discuss her personal project about her paternal grandfather, “a journalist and community leader—was deported from British Malaya to China, joined the Chinese Communist Party guerrilla army, and was executed just before the Communist victory in 1949.”
This event is free to attend. Be sure to reserve your spot and RSVP as soon as possible!
