I am in Burma working but got an email from Patrick Witty, senior photo editor at Time magazine, for my reaction to Instagram’s posting of it’s new terms of agreement on Time’s LightBox. They are onerous, unfair, unwise and reflects their intentions moving forward quite clearly. I was very pleased to see the community of photography immediately stand up and have a voice. National Geographic has also sent a directive on how to proceed that will not make Instagram folks pleased either. We must stand together and force this rights grab to stop. And remember, it doesn’t just effect the professional photography community. This means anyone in the world who posts a personal image could have it used for commercial purposes without control of the usage or compensation. Absolutely unacceptable!
