Photography can be more than a hobby, more than a job, even more than a passion. Photography can change lives by allowing people to tell their stories. For youth in underserved communities, having an outlet like photography to learn and explore their world, can be critical in shaping their outlooks and perspectives on life.
VisionWorkshops is an organization that provides “programs free of charge to their students through generous donations from the community, foundations, and corporate sponsors. Theirr workshops inspire youth with positive role models and with opportunities to display their photographs and writings at galleries from Annapolis to Europe to India and the Middle East.”
Recently VisionWorkshops has used photography as a means to challenge and inspire Hispanic youth through an anti-gang arts initiative. In addition, they have worked with young refugees as they get footing in their new homes in the US. VisionWorkshops is making a difference in our community and in the lives of individuals.
You can make a difference, too. From 7:00PM on May 15 to 7:00PM on May 16th the Great Give online fundraising event will take place. During those 24 hours, you can donate to important charities, like VisionWorkshops, so they can continue making our world a better place.
“Meeting people from other cultures has taught me that you will not know how things look until you come closer to them. Then you will see a different picture that you can paint yourself by looking for light.”
