Griffin Museum of Photography
67 Shore Road
Winchester, MA 01890

The Griffin Museum in partnership with the Social Documentary Network is thrilled to host photographer Ed Kashi to celebrate his new book, Abandoned Moments, A Love Letter to Photography. Please join us online in the Griffin Zoom Room for a lecture and book signing for the book’s launch on Tuesday, May 24th from 7 – 8.30 PM EST.

Glenn Ruga, founder and director of the Social Documentary Network will moderate a conversation with Ed Kashi and scholar, educator and curator Alison Nordström, who wrote the introduction. Nordström will join in the conversation with Ed about his journey of creativity and reflect on the intersection between the intentional and unplanned elements within Kashi’s work. In the introduction, Nordström writes, “By returning to his archive, long after the images have lost their primary relevance and immediate use, he re-inserts his voice, heart, and intellect into a world of pictures from which he had once intentionally concealed his presence.”

Information on Abandoned Moments

Kashi shares that this book is a 40-year “labor of love.” He speaks to the evolution of his style and methodology, revealing that, “Over time, I developed a more personal approach, one that is instinctive and without premeditation. I often shoot from the hip. Sometimes it is simply a matter of letting my camera absorb light in hopes that the intensity and immediacy of life-simply-being-lived has been devoured in all its fullness. It is precisely the uncontrolled circumstances sparking these images that gives them their vitality and surprise.”
