Our Mission

Print for Crisis: United for Myanmar

We believe in the power of photography and empathy for others.

In times of perpetual connection through technology, we feel responsible to not only watch but act. Living in a world that is traumatised by fear and uncertainty, we strongly believe that helping each other is more essential than ever.

We are therefore coming together to support the people of Myanmar.

United, we raise awareness for freedom of expression in Myanmar with a louder voice, and collect funds through a print sale of limited edition fine art prints.

We are giving a platform to photographers from inside the country and those from outside who feel connected to Myanmar, to make a meaningful contribution to their brothers and sisters’ democracy struggle by donating a photograph.

Each donated image will travel around the world to remind of beauty, connection, and independence. Together, let’s send a message to the Myanmar people that they are being seen.

All net proceeds will go to journalists, photographers, and artists – groups particularly targeted by the ruthless military regime.

The Proceeds

All net proceeds will go to local organisations and initiatives supporting freedom of expression and independent media.

We are aiming to support the following:

Why Myanmar?

Since the military coup of February 1 put an abrupt end to the country’s burgeoning democracy, Myanmar people have shown the world extraordinary bravery and determination in fighting the dictatorship.

Civilian leaders, including Aung San Suu Kyi, were arrested and peaceful demonstrations were quashed - first with tear gas and rubber bullets, then shooting directly at the heads of protesters. Angel, 19; Nay Myo Aung, 16; Khin Myo Chit, 7, shot in the safety of her home. These are only some of the hundreds of victims of repression that is targeting mostly the young – as their vision of a different future for the nation is the biggest threat to the generals. Generation Z especially has worked hard to spread the news of what is happening in the country, often while filming shootings from their own windows. The whole country is refusing to work under the dictatorship and has formed a Civil Disobedience Movement, which has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. However, this has left many with little economic resources, while recent weeks have seen a harsh crackdown on media and the internet. Newsrooms have been raided, journalists and artists arrested. Against all odds and at great personal risk, our colleagues continue to report and express what is happening in Myanmar. We would like to support them. We can give them concrete help by allowing media & artists to survive and journalists to work for their people and for a just future. The money will go directly to independent media outlets as well as artists fighting for freedom of expression. The creativity that Myanmar has inspired will not be forgotten.
