So excited to share that The Enigma Room, our immersive multimedia installation piece, will exhibit this summer at the Currents New Media festival in Santa Fe, NM.
In The Enigma Room, Kashi weighs truth against reality, searching for where they intersect and diverge. Kashi uses coding to transform his archive, spanning the globe over four decades. This immersive experience challenges perception – the fact of the photograph versus the mystery of digital alchemy.
In this installation, Kashi leverages coding as the new mode of creating and consuming photography. This work weaves photos, video, and audio, transporting the viewer to discover new planes of reality through digital translation.
With Mike Curry, Brenda Bingham and Rachel Dennis, Kashi deploys code as a tool on par with the camera. Abstract connections link images across time and place. This dreamlike reverie explores the physical and transcendent elements of life through cycles of chaos, calm, celebration, and rebirth.
CURRENTS NEW MEDIA provides the community with opportunities to experience new media arts in traditional venues, public and outdoor spaces. Over 9,000 visitors attended festival events in 2019, and over 6500 visited our first online festival in 2020. CURRENTS is enjoyed by a broad demographic. In addition to the locals of all ages and backgrounds who attend the festival every year, the festival is also enjoyed by the many travelers to Santa Fe who visit every summer. Our 2020 online festival was accessible around the globe and was accessed by users in 95 countries.
The festival is the result of a collaboration between Parallel Studios, its partners throughout the city and the many volunteers who invest their time to support this project. It is truly a community endeavor.
