This two-day seminar focuses on the use of a mobile phone in taking photos, video, notes, sketches and audio recordings during a documentary project.. This course is taught in a seminar format, with both students engaging in discussion about  the practical use and possibilities of the mobile phone during reportage. In addition, the workshop delves into the creative side of smartphone photography. Learn abou vision, creative apps, and storytelling during talks and edit-and-critique sessions.

Day 1 
9 – 11AM | Presentation and introduction of assignment  by Ed Kashi
11 – 1PM |  Start making photographs with intention, using the assignment as a guidepost if needed.     
1 – 4PM | Review work of each participant, no more than 15 images, preferably from an ongoing project, an old project or a portfolio of your favorite images.
Make photographs! Sense, feel, see, think, observe, react, see intersections. And plan to bring in no more than 15 images each for review on Day 2.

Day 2
9 – 11AM | Critique Session (view images from yesterday)
1-4PM | Critique Session, inclusive of all images, discussion on apps to use, how to effectively post on Instagram, how to use Instagram Stories and ways to use social media to extend your reach and impact.

Additional Information: Two-day virtual classes meet Friday – Saturday from 9-11AM and 2-5PM MST via Zoom Video Conferencing software (download free from zoom.com).

An Anderson Ranch staff member co-teaches the class and coordinates the online platform. There can be a group critique Saturday afternoon to wrap up the class. Further details will be emailed to registrants.
